Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
PCOD/PCOS Stands for Polycystic Ovarian Disease/ Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. When small Cysts in the ovaries occur, this condition disturbs the menstrual cycle. This Condition Further causes Infertility in Women. The Excess of androgen and estrogenic hormones with the absence of ovulation cause the occurrence of Infertility. Higher Androgen levels prevent the ovaries to release the egg during the menstrual cycle and this cause Infertility. In medical term, PCOD’s other name is Stein-Leventhal Syndrome.
How to Diagnose PCOD?
Diagnose can be easy due to unpredictable menstrual cycle. If your periods come with the maximum gap of 35 days or less gap of 21 days then it can be PCOD. If there is an absence of menstrual cycle, it can also be the cause of PCOD. Other Symptoms you can face are Heavy Bleeding or no bleeding at all, Acne, too much hair on the body and face (Hirsutism) due to high androgen levels in the body. In Some Cases, patients don’t feel any symptoms. We ask to do some Tests, Vaginal Ultrasound, Blood Tests, lower abdomen Ultrasound etc. to diagnose the condition properly.
Sometimes PCOD can be treated with weight loss, but in most cases you will need medications or sometimes you have to go for Surgery if your condition is worse. If IUI doesn’t work, IVF is the last and the best solution to treat PCOS.
